Written by Ali Reza moge Allah hem rijkelijk belonen amien.

“In Markus 15:34, Jesus’ cry of distress is reproduced in various forms in the extant witnesses. Some manuscripts (D Θ 059 565) read Ηλι Ηλι (“Eli, Eli”) instead of Eλοι ελοι (“Eloi, Eloi”), found in all other documents.

The former represents the Hebrew expression for “my God”; the latter rep resents the Aramaic expression for “my God…. the Hebrew is more likely the result of scribal conformity to Matt 27:46.” 1

“waarom heeft u me verlaten”. WH heeft het als “σαβαχθανεί” (ΣΑΒΑΧΘΑΝΕΊ). (Zie foto)

(Sinaiticus of 01). (Zie foto).

Bijzondere van Codex D is, dat “D (supported by it04* Porphyry) reads ωνει δισας με (“reproached me”) instead of (“forsaken me”), found in all other witnesses. As usual, this reading shows the creative editorialization of the scribe of the D-text, who thought it too much for Jesus to have been forsaken by God….

The word “reproached” was introduced to avoid an implication that Jesus had become separated from divinity and therefore could not himself be divine. Thus, the change would combat a gnostic separationist Christology which posited that “the Christ” left Jesus to die on his own.” 3

  • “The collection includes some 12,000 Qur’ānic parchment fragments. As of 1997, all but 1500–2000 leaves or fragments were assigned to 926 distinct Qur’ānic manuscripts, none complete, and many containing only a few folios. There are about 150 non-Qur’ānic parchment fragments, and a large number of fragments written on paper. Among the Qur’ān manuscripts, twenty-two are in the Ḥijāzī script, and therefore are probably from the first century AH (7th century and early 8th century Ad.)” 5
  • “The upper text is from the standard textual tradition and was probably written sometime during the seventh or the first half of the eighth century AD.” 6
  • “The lower writing (C1) , on paleographic and art-historical grounds, is almost certainly from the seventh century AD, and probably not from the latter part of that century.

More precision may be obtained by radiocarbon dating, which assigns the parchment, and hence the lower codex, to the period before AD 671 with a probability of 99% (before 661 with the probability of 95.5%, and before 646 with a probability of 75%).15 This makes it significantly earlier than the few other Qur’āns that have been radiocarbon-dated.16 ” 7

  • “Scholars have not yet been granted access to the microfilms that have been in the possession of Puin and Bothmer, nor has any author traveled to Ṣan‘ā’ and published a study using the microfilms or manuscripts there. As a result, the first public discussions of the lower text were based on the images of the four folios that were auctioned in London, and which therefore were readily available.” 8
  • “The scriptio inferior, that is to say the text which is chronologically the first one written on the parchment, is DIFFICULT to observe as the letters are erased and partly covered by the second text.” 9
  • “The script of the scriptio inferior does not seem to be the work of a skilled professional and includes elements which could be dated to the second half of the first/seventh century.” 10
  • “For many years, the nature and extent of the textual variants of the Codex ṢanʿāʾI have been the subject of speculations based on rumours and although various attempts have been made during the last decade to publish either parts of the scriptio inferior48 or its entirety,49 a scientific edition based on good photographs is still lacking.” 11
  • “A variety of synonyms is found in the CodexṢanʿāʾI, ranging from a copula to a group of words.5…. The influence of the other variants on the meaning itself varies greatly. Puin notes for instance an interesting case in Inv. 01–27.1, f. SG 11b/P 9b, l. 16–17 where the stereotyped final formula of 24:35 is completely different from that found in the ʿUthmanic version, WITHOUT altering the meaning of the rest of the verse.57 Things may be different when the changes concern the verbal forms or the person(s) involved (verbs or pronouns).” 12
  • “A small fraction of the variants do make a difference in meaning. But most variants do not affect the meaning significantly enough to warrant such a theory, and many variants do not change the meaning at all. Furthermore, most textual differences are candidates for being the products of assimilation of parallels, harmonization to context, or simple omission – phenomena that characterize genuine transmission.37 The one reason that is most relevant for our purposes, however, is that Ṣan‘ā’ 1 constitutes direct documentary evidence for the reality of the non-‘Uthmānic text types that are usually referred to as “Companion codices.” 13
  • “With the important exception of the Codex Ṣanʿāʾ I, the rasm found in the handwritten witnesses of that period corresponds to theʿUthmanic vulgate if we admit that, in spite of the orthographic peculiarities, a lack of most of the required diacritics and of any orthoepic signs, the text the copyists had in mind coincided with the canonical version as we know it today.” 14
  • “The lower Qur’ān is of enormous interest because it is so far the ONLY manuscript that is known to be non-‘Uthmānic, that is, from a textual tradition other than the standard one.” 15
  • “Puin wrote that the palimpsest is the ONLY manuscript in the Dār al-Makhṭūṭāt with significant textual variants.” 16
  • “According to my (deroche) direct knowledge of three large collections of early Qurʾanic copies, those of Damascus, Fustat and Kairouan, there is no parallel to the situation found in Sanaa.” 17
  • “…scholars normally take a singular reading to be a relatively late development or a scribal error, unless it occurs in a branch of the textual tradition that is different from all the others, also unlikely in this case.” 18
  • “Fedeli concluded cautiously that the non-standard lectio found in the palimpsest is not to be considered as proof of the pre-ʿÛthmānic (sic) period,…” 19
